PEDIATRIC THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

Our therapy services are open to children 2 to 18 years of age and consist of both physical and occupational therapy.

Each session is led by a licensed physical or occupational therapist who works on individualized therapy goals using hippotherapy as the treatment strategy –– the horse’s movement is the delivery mechanism for the therapy.

These goals are designed to address deficits in motor function, balance, muscle tone, proprioception, coordination, and communication. The horse provides a repetitive movement in three dimensions, which facilitates improvement in all of these areas. The ability to adjust the rider’s position in relation to this movement, and to adjust the horse’s gait to improve receptor input is not possible to create in a typical clinical setting. The relationship that develops between the rider and the horse then provides a motivation and enthusiasm that further enhances the therapy experience. Riding skills are not taught in hippotherapy, rather the emphasis is on physical/occupational goals designed to improve daily living and life skills.

Our therapists are all licensed professionals and have completed education through the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA)

Enrollment

The first step to participating in therapy that uses hippotherapy as the treatment strategy is to determine your child’s eligibility. Patients seeking hippotherapy will need to:

1. Download and fill out the Initial Intake Form

2. Mail the completed form to: Xenophon Program Director, P.O. Box 16, Orinda, CA 94563

Once we receive your completed application packet, the patient’s name will be entered onto our wait list.

Pricing

Initial Pediatric Therapy Service Evaluation Fee: $150.00
30 minute Pediatric Therapy Session Fee: $135.00

Lessons are paid for in session blocks. Scholarships are available if needed; for more information please contact the Program Director.

Schedule

Each session block is 6-8 weeks long with therapy sessions scheduled on Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays. We require 24 hours notice if you will not be present at your therapy session.
